Sounds like a super fancy word, doesn't it? Procurement. All it actually means is 'buying stuff'... well - that's not ALL it means really.. it's kinda complicated..

When it comes to procurement - especially interior design procurement - the processes and systems that are in place can make the project go smoothly OR create a massive headache. Procurement is a step that many who, without education on the topic, could skip out on and, in the end, wish they hadn't. So.. if you are working with a designer or if you are thinking of working with one in the future - it's a great idea to know what exactly procurement is and how it can affect your timeline.

While it's not the first step - it is an important part of any interior design system..
Procurement is a fancy term for purchasing, but it certainly isn't just about clicking purchase and adding it to your cart.. Each design item is communicated to your designer and his/her team as it is in the following example:
*When a client (you) approves a design item (that is custom), the order will need to be placed.
*The order can only be placed with exact design specs, drawings, and lead time, as well as purchase time.
*When orders are placed for specific materials - as the materials arrive - any issues must be resolved.
*Manufacturer must be mailed the specific materials for said custom piece.
*The design item is then created by the manufacturer (this could take two weeks to a month).
*Pay the balance and arrange for shipment to a receiver and then notify the professional receiver of the install date.
*Finally the item ships
*The particular design item is inspected and issues are resolved.
*A professional receiver will store the item for future install date (this is a line item in the preliminary budget as well).
This process is all for JUST ONE PIECE!!!! Thank goodness a designer knows this process well and how to do it efficiently.. could you imagine the time it might take you to do this on your own for an entire room, or for a whole home?!
