Remodeling a Bathroom: Tubs and Showers

Writer's picture: Melanie BlackwellMelanie Blackwell

This post is so much about personal preference but we can discuss the four options available in design and YOU can ultimately decide which works for you and the resale of your home..

  1. Separate tub and shower: for those who prefer the shower but want to have the option to use the tub for an occasional soak

2. Combined tub and shower: when the standard sized tub converts to a shower with the help of a shower curtain, sliding door, or glass wall

3. A large shower with no tub: A larger area to move around in, the possible addition of multiple shower heads AND a built-in bench can seem very luxurious.. Many people who choose this option have a tub in a smaller bathroom elsewhere in their home

4. The new "wet room" - tub in the shower area: growing in popularity, a wet room places the tub in the same area as the shower head, pretty much everything can get wet! (I would have questions about cleaning and water spots, etc.) It definitely has the look of an elite spa, when tile, grout, fand ixture combinations are chosen correctly according to the color and look one is going for. This could be SUPER appealing for those who have a growing family of littles who like to splash around and get everything wet while they take a bath. Another benefit it what it does for people with pets..

Did you know about the 'wet room'? Are you thinking about renovating your master bath or a bathroom in your home and want unique design ideas? I can help with that!
