One of my favorite times of the day is the moment when you crawl into bed and feel the cold sheets on your skin and the weight of your body sink into the mattress - you know that you have lived another day to its fullest and now its time to get a good night's rest! I admit that - I LOVE MY BED! - and its not just because it happens to be part of one of my favorite parts of the day - but also because I love the way its styled!
Your master bedroom should reflect you more than any other room in the home, because it is YOUR space - it should feel like a retreat and the bed is the pinnacle of that space. The following are some of the tips I have for making your bed look like the famous furniture piece that it is...
1. Sheets - I enjoy ALL types of patterns and colors of sheets ( and even the sheets at Ikea will eventually soften in the wash) but one thing to note is that - its not about thread count - its more about the type of cotton used in production. If you ever took a look at the label on the sheets hotels used (which are some of the most comfy I have ever felt) you will notice that they are usually made from Egyptian cotton which is soft, breathable and very durable.

2. Duvet/duvet cover (X2) - It is my opinion that a duvet is possibly the best route to take when 'styling' a bed for a couple of reasons. One is that you can be more specific about your wants and needs beyond size - do you have a temperature preference or need something that helps to wick moisture? The technology of the duvet has evolved over time and can adjust to your body temperature and sleep patterns much better then a comforter. Second is that it can be changed as often as you like to change the look of your space. If you are like me - you likely change up the color, pattern and overall look of your master bedroom on a five year rotating basis.. purchasing a new duvet cover can often be much more cost effective than a whole bed set or even a new comforter. (Perhaps you noticed that you can double up this particular item as well.. it can add to the 'fluffiness' of the look if you have two!)

3. Comforter (X2) - if you are purchasing bedding for a guest bedroom or a child's room, sometimes it makes more sense to purchase a comforter, instead. (Doubling up here, can up your fluffiness quotient as well!)

4. Pillows - You can NEVER have too many pillows, in my humble opinion and I have been told that I might have a pillow problem.. BUT pillows can also be intentionally styled to your preference and your taste, so that they don't feel like something you are just throwing on the floor or nearest chair and then having to load back on to the bed in the morning.. Other than your sleeping pillows - you can do one simple added layer of kind sized pillows if you happen to own a king-sized bed (its likely your duvet cover or comforter will come with those shams anyway - you may as well add them to the bed). You can also add one or two throw pillows instead of the often seen three to four that can over power the sleeping space and make one feel like there isn't enough room in the bed because of the number of pillows. My suggestion is to style according to what feels comfortable but know the varying types of pillows...

5. Blanket - a blanket may or may not be a necessity dependent on where you live or the temperature that feels comfortable for you when you sleep. A blanket can be used or simply added to the bed for style and for that fluffiness factor that we have been talking about.. either way - a soft cozy blanket can add dimension to any room and the bedroom should be the coziest of all.
6. Quilt - Quilts are great for multiple reasons.. It helps to add layers to the style; it can help add warmth for cold nights AND it can protect your bedding from pet paws and fur as well! Quilts have risen in popularity and are a great personal touch if you or someone you know makes quilts as a hobby or as a sentimental gift from one generation to the next!
