Art. Art can take many forms...
I see interior design as a form of art... one that uses space, shapes, lighting, color and mood in the tangible third dimension. As a designer - I often draw my inspiration from the 2D art on a piece of canvas or film as a plan for my own curated interior art design.
LIFE IMITATES ART. - Oscar Wilde
There are three elements of artwork that can be helpful when using art as inspiration..
Colors. Colors have a psychology all their own.. it is important, when one designs, to consider how a large amount of one shade of a particular color could affect the owner of the space. Second to how a color can make you feel, is the purpose of the space..
Feel. What mood does the art inspire and does it relate to the overall mood of the space and design purpose/goal/statement?
Textures/Accents. When paired with different textures, or when the artwork conveys a particular texture on its own, artwork can help add dimension and depth to the design as well - as the curator draws on the medium, or the variety therein, throughout the space.
